Merge Grain

[edit]

The only difference that I can see between Grain and Cereal is that the former includes pseudocereals, legumes and oil seeds, and Heegoop alleges on the talk page that this violates our original research policy. Lophotrochozoa (talk) 22:36, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - although there is significant overlap between the two, much of this has arisen through the use of excerpts from Cereal being used in Grain. I believe that there is merit in establishing a clear consensus of where primary information should lie. With such agreement it whould be possible to establish clear blue water between the two. Cereals are clearly cultivated grass species, whereas Grains can be found across a wide range of plant families. I see no benefit in a merge and many incocistences and confusion arising from a merge.  Velella  Velella Talk   23:25, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose - this is a non-starter. The most cursory glance at Grain will show that it (correctly) covers many non-cereal crops. The merger would make no sense, and indeed do serious damage. - Chiswick Chap (talk)
So you disagree with User:Heegoop's argument that it is original research to define Grain that way? Lophotrochozoa (talk) 00:04, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No idea why user H should have thought that, but if so it was nonsense. The term is certainly used that way. Try a Google search for "lentil grain", for instance. Chiswick Chap (talk) 00:09, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose There's not much that cereal and grain have in common so to merge them doesn't make much sense. Rager7 (talk) 05:53, 9 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
